The FTC has released a comprehensive proposal that significantly restricts the use of children’s personal information by Meta. If approved, this may pose headwinds for Meta’s monetization.
On the same day, Meta indicated its intention to lodge an objection, dissatisfied with the ruling.
The proposal, which was made public, allows for the use of information collected from children under the age of 18 only for service provision and safety assurance, completely prohibiting monetization through advertising and the like.
Meta strongly opposes the proposal and criticizes the lack of discussion and the opportunity to establish industry standards being taken away.
